Why TMVs matter

Two risks, pulling in opposite directions

Hot water has to be stored hot to keep Legionella in check. But water that hot can scald in seconds. A TMV lets you have both: hot in the pipes, safe at the tap.

10°C70°C

Cold stays cold

Cold water should be below 20°C. Between roughly 20°C and 45°C is where Legionella bacteria grow best.

Safe at the outlet

The TMV blends hot and cold to a set temperature, typically around 41°C for a shower and up to 44°C for a bath.

Hot stays hot

Stored hot water should be at least 60°C, which is well above the temperature that can cause a serious scald.

On the day

What actually happens on a TMV service

No mystery. Our engineer works through each valve in turn, writes down what they find, and tells you before doing anything that costs extra.

  • Mixed outlet temperature measured and compared with the set point
  • Cold supply isolated to prove the valve fails safe
  • Strainers and check valves cleaned or replaced
  • Limescale removed and the valve recalibrated where it's drifted
  • Results recorded against that valve's entry in your register

Compliance, simply

The rules, without the jargon

TMVs in healthcare are covered by HTM 04-01. Valves themselves are made to standards such as BS EN 1111 and BS EN 1287, and certified under the TMV2 or TMV3 schemes. Your Legionella risk assessment, under ACOP L8 and HSG274, should say where you need them.

We'll explain which bits apply to your building, and make sure your records show the work's been done.

How it works

Four steps, no fuss

  1. Tell us about the site

Roughly how many valves, what kind of building and where. A quick call or the form is fine.

  2. Get a fixed quote

We price per valve or per visit, so you know the cost up front.

  3. We test and service

Every valve checked, cleaned and set up, with anything extra agreed with you first.

  4. Records & reminders

Certificates, an updated register and a reminder when the next test is due.

Quick answers

Common questions

How often should a TMV be serviced?

At least once a year, and in many care and healthcare settings every six months. New valves should be checked soon after fitting, and the ongoing interval set from how stable the results are. Our compliance guide goes into more detail.

What's the difference between TMV2 and TMV3?

Both are certification schemes. TMV2 covers valves for domestic-type use. TMV3 covers valves for healthcare and care settings, with tougher performance requirements. If you look after vulnerable people, you'll usually want TMV3.

Do you only work in London?

No. We cover the whole of the UK and specialise in London and the Home Counties.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. Every valve we test gets its results recorded, and you get a certificate and an updated asset register after each visit.

Got TMVs that need testing?

Tell us how many valves you've got and where. We'll come back with a clear, fixed quote.
